Engineering

It’s an environment where you have challenging goals but also have the freedom and responsibility with it, so you can actually have an influence on what things we will change, how we will improve things and how we will deliver products.

What does your job entail and what challenges do you meet?

József Erős
Full Stack Developer

Balancing between implementing new features & re-polishing existing ones is always a challenge. There are tons of awesome ideas that we just can’t wait to introduce to our users, and we instantly get feedback from them whenever we put something new out there, which is quite motivating. But since we always learn about new technologies & feel welcome to introduce them, we consequently find new ways in which the existing features could be improved too.

What kind of knowledge, skills and qualities do you need to perform this role? How do you upgrade?

Gábor Nádai
Engineering Manager

For me, Engineering Management is a super interesting adventure as it's in the intersection of people, business and technology. A solid base of technology knowledge is necessary to understand what's happening in my teams. Communication, feedback, mentoring, setting challenging goals, public speaking, organizing and decision making are the top skills I need almost all the time.I keep my tech skills up-to-date by going with the flow on Twitter. There I learn about new technologies by following or participating in interesting discussions and collecting great insights from engineers all around the world. For management and leadership, I read books, I am active in relevant Slack groups, I follow blogs and Engineering Management newsletters like Level Up! or SWLW. Transparency, honesty and integrity are the most important qualites for me. I try to do everyting in a transparent and honest way and I expect these qualities from everyone I work with. This helps me keep my integrity and focus on the most important things.

What kind of knowledge, skills and qualities do you need to perform this role? How do you upgrade?

Gábor Takács
Tech Lead, Build Services

I think one of the most important thing to have is curiosity to be able to adapt to new situations all the time. Hosted CI/CD is a special business, some of the technological challenges we face are unique to this domain. Tackling previously unknown problems is the most fun and effective way to learn new things.
